What Is A Rhinoplasty?

Cosmetic surgery of the nose, called Rhinoplasty, is an operation designed to improve the appearance of the nose. The goal should be to change the nose & put it in better balance with your other facial features.

Who Is A Candidate For A Nose Job?

Patients should be healthy, completed facial growth (15 or older) and be realistic about their goals and expectations.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Most patients after Rhinoplasty have only mild discomfort.

  • The nasal splint is worn 7-10 days.

  • Swelling will start to resolve in 7-14 days but take months for all the swelling to resolve.

  • Most patients return to work or school after the splint is removed.

  • Strenuous activity and prolonged pressure from glasses are avoided for 4-6 weeks.

What If My Nose Has Been Broken?

Patient’s that have sustained injuries to the nose can result in nasal deformities that would benefit from a Rhinoplasty. Dr. Sargent specializes in post-traumatic nasal deformities.

What If I Have Breathing Problems?

Correction of nasal obstruction can be performed alone or in combination with a Rhinoplasty. This procedure is usually covered by insurance. Whether you are just trying to improve the appearance of your nose or want to improve breathing function, you may be a candidate for surgery of the nose.

What Is Involved In The Operation?

Rhinoplasties can be technically difficult and should be performed by a surgeon with extensive experience that will give you the best chance for an excellent outcome.

  • Limit activities for several days.

  • Packing can be removed in 24-48 hours if no work has been done on septum.

  • No exercising for 3-4 weeks.

Scars

Dr. Sargent performs almost all Rhinoplasties with no external scars.

Risks / Possible Complications

Serious complications are rare in addition to usual risks of anesthesia. Other potential complications include:

  • Bleeding

  • Infection

  • Sinusitis

  • Nasal breathing difficulties

  • Bumps or irregularities of bone healing or cartilage contour
